About

Hello! My name is Matthew. I originally grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While attending UW-Madison, I studied Communication Arts and History (I technically double majored but it is not as impressive as it may sounds). Currently, I am living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I work remotely for a Wisconsin office of higher education.

Writing has been a passion of mine for years. I started journaling on a daily basis in eighth grade. I loved feeling like I had a safe space to explore my emotions and put them into context. In addition to writing in a journal, I ended up writing a lot of papers while in college. I also got used to writing out different emails and text messages thanks to various jobs I’ve held in recent years. These experiences helped solidify for me that writing is one of my passions. I figured that there was no better way to explore my passion than joining the virtual black hole known as online blogging.

In order to commit to having a blog, I wanted to have a theme that I knew mattered a lot to me. Which is why this blog is centered around mental health. I have struggled with mental health for over a decade. I first recognized that something was not right when I began middle school. Trying to learn about mental health while simultaneously growing up led to me making a lot of mistakes in regards to my mental wellness. And I know that I have a lot more mistakes to make. In writing about my various mistakes, I hope to do my part in ending the stigma surrounding mental health. I also hope that my stories can relate to others who are struggling. Particularly younger individuals who are in their teenage and college years.

I am not a mental health expert. I am simply an awkward, semi-generic white dude. Through the various uncomfortable experiences I’ve had, I hope that there is at least one person who can feel comforted by my stories. If my tales can help even one person feel slightly better, then this blog will be a success.

In addition to writing and discussing mental health, I also really enjoy video editing. I nerd out hardcore when I get to take footage that other people have shot and make it my own. I enjoy different forms of exercising. I’m not jacked enough to be a full fledged bro. However, I do enjoy walks, running, yoga and different weight lifting exercises. I am starting to read more. I also love playing video games (I am particularly fond of the Mario games like Mario Party). Additionally, I geek out pretty hard for different TV shows. I usually watch sitcoms like The Office, Friends, Parks and Recreation, That 70s Show and others. However, I am open to watching other shows as well.
